How to disinfect your phone?

Who is the one who spends maximum hours with you a day… someone who is beside you while you eat, sleep or even when you are in toilet ?!
Majority will agree that it’s your mobile phone..

Can your all time companion be a carrier of COVID19 ? Should we not disinfect our mobile phone as well?

Certainly YES because, mobile phones act as a carrier of many microbes. It is in frequent contact with all sorts of things around you. In addition, it is being constantly contaminated by the droplets of saliva while you speak. Health care workers’ mobile phones are of courses at a higher risk of being contaminated by the microbes.

?What to do to prevent cross contamination?

?Wash your hands with soap and water or clean with hand sanitizer frequently.

?Use ear phones or blue tooth devices for attending calls as far as possible. This will prevent contamination of mobile phones by your salivary droplets.

?Avoid keeping the mobile phone carelessly, keep it in a specific place like your pocket or bag.

?Avoid using another person’s mobile phone as much as possible. Share the videos / photos through whatsapp or by other methods if you want to see it.

?Using back cover and frequently disinfecting them is useful.

?How to disinfect your mobile phone?

Read the instructions for cleaning given in the user manual of your device.

?Apple company says, “Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the exterior surfaces of your iPhone. Don’t use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and don’t submerge your iPhone in any cleaning agents.”

? Google pixel phones can be disinfected using ordinary household disinfecting wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol-based wipes. Don’t use wipes that have bleach. (https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7533987?hl=en)

?As there are no specific recommendations available from other major mobile brands, 70% alcohol containing wipes or sanitizers may be used for disinfection.

?Newer disinfectant devices are available which can disinfect smartphones and tablets using ultraviolet light. These are available in the online portals.The mobile can be kept inside the disinfectant device and switched on. It can disinfect and charge the phone at the same time, but are costly.

☑️Unplug all cables and turn off your phone before cleaning.

☑️Use a soft, lint-free cloth for wiping to prevent scratches.

☑️Make sure that disinfectant liquid doesn’t go inside the ports and small openings.

☑️Don’t use bleach containing wipes or cleansing agents

☑️Don’t submerge the phone in any disinfectant solution.

☑️Ordinary cleaning products and abrasive materials may diminish the oil repellant finger print resistant coating and might cause scratches on your phone. If you are using a screen guard, cleansing wipes other than those recommended by the companies may be used.

☑️The plastic or leather mobile phone case can be cleaned using soap and water or with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Remember, we may have to pay the price for the small things we take for granted. So take care of these small but significant things and stay safe…
